Why Ke$ha wants to be a man
Ke$ha on being a man:
'I would have a SICK beard, I would pee outside, and aim on stuff.. I wouldn't wear underwear, or a bra.. I would not have to wear high heels, no make up - this is amazing.. I would do a lot of other things too though'
Ke$ha on Shakira's bum (pardon the innuendo):
'I talked to her on the phone the other day and she was like 'I like your song', and I couldn't help it, I was like, 'I like your butt', 'cos I do...'
Via.
I can already tell I'm going to be the lowbrow element in this blog...

Who is Kesha and why are we meant to care what she thinks of Shakira's arse? This is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteno one asked you to fucking read it you cunt
ReplyDeleteActually, by starting a public blog, we ARE asking people to read it and we ARE asking them to comment. Reacting to a critical comment on a feminist blog by calling the commentator a cunt is, frankly, funny and sad at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI've switched the settings back to exclude anonymous comments. Please continue to scratch each others eyes out in a sophisticated manner, just back it up with arguments and your name. Thank you.
Alva
I wrote it, and I think it's pretty justified, the commenter wasn't being critical, just mean, he/she is unecessarily undermining a perfectly reasonable blog post. Just because it doesn't interest him/her doesn't mean it doesn't have its place or isn't of interest. I read this and had never heard of Kesha either but I didn't feel the need to be rude about the post, I just realised it wasn't for me and moved on. I wouldn't see a blog post title called grooming bulldogs and then complain that i'd never heard of bulldogs and that who cares about dog grooming anyway i'd realise it's not for me and just wouldn't read it.
ReplyDeleteAnd as or the use of cunt i'm genuinely sorry if that offended you but i'm from Fife and thats how we talk.
The comment wasn't meant to be 'just mean' as it asked questions I feel the article should have answered. As far as I understand (and I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong) this blog is meant to be a depository for 'RADICAL QUEER FEMINIST ACADEMIA'. Kate's article quotes someone who I would assume very few readers of this blog would know, and then offers no commentary or explanation as to why this is news. It doesn't really seem to fit in with the tone of the blog as even she acknowledges at the end.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, I think Kesha's quote is highly questionable. Why is it okay for her to tell Shakira she loves her ass in response to a compliment concerning her music? If this was a guy we'd all be up in arms about it: complaining that even though Shakira makes wonderful (haha!) music she'll only ever be viewed as an amazing body by a large proportion of people. Is this just simply not the case because Kesha's a woman? There is something very wrong with that. Objectification is still objectification, no matter who it's coming from.
And in response to your excuse about your language: we all originate from somewhere. I'm sure there are plenty of people in Fife who do not go around effing and blinding. Try to exercise some self-control.
Even you must admit it asked those questions in a mean and condescending way, even if thats not what you meant, the inclusion of 'this is beyond me' serves no other purpose.
ReplyDeleteThis blog is for, and i quote, 'RADICAL QUEER FEMINIST ACADEMIA. news activism articles thoughts ideas exhibitions books poetry events songs pictures debate controversy'
this surely must qualify under one of these categories.
T assume that veery few readers of this blog would not know of kesha is a bit of a leap. She has had a number 1 album and single in the US as well as a top ten album and single in the UK as well as many other countries you should not confuse you're own ignorance of the subject with that of the worlds.
As far as fitting with the tone of the blog, I have read many interesting and intelligent articles on here by Kate and I think this one was just supposed to be light hearted and a but of fun, why take it so seriously.
I think it was the first quote that was to be of any interest, as far as objectification goes i think it's subjective, as a man i'm not qualified to comment but i'm gonna go ahead and assume Kate's a woman and she doesn't seem to have a problem with it. At asny rate i think this was meant to be amusing mor than anything else.
Yes we all do originate from somewhere an i originate from a place thats as notorious for fowl language as Paris is for the Eiffel tower, seriously try going to Fife.
